Professor Bilkisu Isa is a Consultant Obstetrics and Gyneacologist and the incumbent Head of Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology department, University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Borno State, Northeast Nigeria. She is a leading expert in Sexual, Reproductive, Maternal and Adolescent Health, and is actively engaged training, research, policy development and review at the national, and sub-national levels.
After her elementary education, Professor Bilkisu Isa obtained her MBBS from the University of Maiduguri, Borno state, in 1999. Fellowship of the West Africa College of Surgeons in 2011. She obtained Master’s in Health Planning and Management from the University of Maiduguri in 2017 and she was awarded the Professorship in 2023. She has had other trainings outside the shores of Nigeria, including Advance Training in In vitro fertilization (IVF) in Egypt.
Professor Bilkisu has served as a Consultant to several Government agencies as well as international development organizations, especially those with concerted efforts aimed at repositioning the Borno state health system and delivering the healthy citizenry ambition of the Borno State Government.
She is an academia, an advocate for gender equity and women empowerment, a leader per excellence. She holds membership of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Medical and Dental Association of Consultants in Nigeria, Medical and Dental Association of Consultants in Academia, Medical Women Association of Nigeria, and Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU). She served as the Medical Students’ level coordinator between 2014-2022
